THE LAST PEOPLE ON EARTHI am a former college teacher, for over 35 years. When I retired I started to write. The work piled up. My most meaningful work is THE LAST PEOPLE ON EARTH. It was inspired by Sister Dorothy Stang , a 73 year old Catholic nun , an environmentalist , while helping villagers in the Amazon Rain Forest was shot in the head six times. It was an emotional experience and I just had to write a story based on this incident Thousands of acres are being deforested to make grass ranges for cattle, thus killing of precious forests, and villagers. The Amazon river and many tributaries which are the drinking water sources for many people are being polluted by mercury. Fires are set to rid of the forest and lumbering by world lumber companies to make furniture and toothpicks. Scientist claim that the Amazon rainforest is the lungs of the earth. But it seems we are not smart enough to save our own lives. In the meantime the story bound in this reality is adventurous, charming in details of the people's cusoms. Young adult to adult readers will learn about the daily drama of these people-their exotic customs , -burial practises , honoring the dead, initiation rituals, awesome mariage practise, all as colorful and perfected as a Broadway production. And the intrique is awesome. Rosiland Miller
